I know what you’re all thinking. “Erin, it’s January 12th. Everyone has already shared their new year’s resolutions posts or their word of the year posts.” Yes, I know. I’m a little late with this post. Two weeks late. But you know what? We’re 12 days into the year, so I think I’m still good. I didn’t want to rush this post. I didn’t want to sit down on January 1 to write it and have to rack my brain to decide what my goals were for the year, or what my word of the year was going to be. So I wanted for them to come to me instead. And they did, so I’m ready to share them with you.
My 2016 Goals
-Consistently grow our marriage throughout the year by keeping open communication and finding new activities to do together.
-Buy a house (preferably in the first half of the year) and turn it into a home. Not only have Dave and I outgrown our apartment and are ready to own our own larger space, but Leia needs a yard to run around in!
-I want to improve my cooking skills and cook dinner on a more regular basis so I can stop relying on take-out and frozen dinners.
-Make fitness a priority. I want to continue working out regularly, run a 5K and feel comfortable in my body.
-I want to consistently hit 100k pageviews per month. In the last 6 months of 2015, I exceeded 150k page views, getting more than 60k in just December. This month I’m already on track to exceed 150k page views in just January!
-I want to finish my first book. As I’ve mentioned on here before, I’m in the process of writing a book on wedding planning. At the very least I want to finish that one, but I would love to do a second as well!
-I want to turn my Etsy shop into a successful shop. Though I started the shop in August, I have paid little attention to it and haven’t put effort into marketing it. I’ve already made that more a priority in 2016 and plan to improve that even more.
My Word of the Year
I wasn’t going to pick a “word of the year” or write a word of the year post. Like Chelsie, I was skeptical about the trend and didn’t want to define my year in just one word. But one word kept coming back to me. And while I’m not going to let this one word define my entire year, it’s going to be the overarching theme to accomplishing my goals for this year.
So what is my word of the year for 2016?
I accomplished a lot in 2015 that I am proud of. It was a great year. I got married, started a new job, I grew my blog far larger than I thought I could, and opened my own Etsy shop. But I also set a lot of lofty plans and goals for myself, for both my personal life and my blog and business.
I’m 25. I don’t have kids to take care of. I’m no longer planning a wedding. There literally couldn’t be a more perfect year for me to choose hustle as my word of the year. Why do I want to hustle this year? I have two major financial goals for my blog right now. In the short term, I want to make enough from my blog and shop to put a down payment on a home. In the long term, I want to be able to quit my day job and do this blog and business full time. And to accomplish those things, it’s going to take a lot of hustle.
So I’m going to hustle to make my blog better and better. I’m to hustle to learn better ways to monetize my blog. I’m going to hustle to create new products for my Etsy shop and turn it into a successful shop. I’m going to hustle to create new products to sell on my blog. I’m going to hustle to purchase a house and turn it into a home for Dave and me. I’m going to hustle to make sure my marriage is always a priority. I’m going to hustle to make sure 2016 is the best year yet. I’m going to hustle in my professional life and stop procrastinating so I can have more time to focus on family and friends.
