If I’m being honest, winter really isn’t my favorite season. If I’m being more honest, it’s my least favorite of all the seasons. I hate feeling cooped up inside. Even more, I hate that it’s always dark! It’s dark when I wake up and it’s dark when I get home from work. It’s a killer on the seasonal depression. Plus, let’s be real, it makes blog and Instagram photography super difficult! But there are some awesome and unique winter activities to take part in during the colder months. It’s also the perfect season for couples activities because you want to cuddle up next to someone with a higher natural body temperature than you (ie Dave). So today I’m sharing some of those fun activities in the form of a winter bucket list for couples! You know, just a few activities to keep us busy until spring when we can all go outside again!
1. Go ice skating.
I haven’t been ice skating in years, but it’s definitely a staple winter activity for many. Most towns should have an indoor ice rink, but it’s more festive to hit up and outdoor rink. Just make sure to bundle up!
2. Build a snowman together.
Yes, another classic winter bucket list activity. I remember the last time Dave and I built a snowman. We had just had snow-storm. We decided to take advantage of the excess snow. A few hours later, an obnoxious college kid had karate kicked our snowman down. Maybe we’ll try again this year.
3. Drink hot cocoa by the fire.
It’s a stereotypical winter bucket list activity for couples. You have to do it at least once per year, right?
4. Go skiing or snowboarding.
This has been on mine and Dave’s winter bucket list for years! I used to ski and snowboard a bit, and I was awful at both. Dave hasn’t done either. So we’re going to learn together! Winter is a great time to try out a new activity.
5. Have a weekend getaway at a cabin.
The snow somehow seems prettier and less annoying when you’re staying in a cabin in the woods. Weekend getaways are the perfect solution to the winter blues!
6. Take a winter walk.
Let’s all be honest, cold weather sucks. And the fact that it’s dark at 4 pm sucks. But take advantage of your weekends, especially the ones that aren’t too chilly, to enjoy a nice winter walk! If you’re anything like me, you could use the fresh air.
7. Take the dog to the dog park to play in the snow.
Leia is confused by snow. And I think slightly afraid of it. When we take our outside, she’ll take breaks to lay on her back and lick the snow off her paws. She’s an oddball, but I guarantee she’ll play in it if we take her to the dog part and throw her ball around!
8. Celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day might be a stupid, cliche “Hallmark” holiday, but why pass up on an excuse to get dressed up and head out on a date with your favorite person?
9. Plan a trip.
You might not be able to head to warmer temps this winter, but you can start planning a trip for summer! Dave and I have a few trips on the agenda this year (Nashville and Alaska), so we can start mentally planning!
10. Watch the Packers win the Super Bowl.
That one might be wishful thinking. If you’re not from Wisconsin, this probably isn’t on your winter bucket list. But I’m pretending you’re all Packer fans no matter where you’re from.
