It’s been a long time since I just sat down and spoke directly to me readers through this blog. I try to make my blog posts as helpful as possible, writing content that you can use in your everyday life. But by doing that, it feels less like a conversation. Today, however, I’m just sitting down to write directly to you, to talk to you about the state of the blog. As you can see from the title of the post, I’m going to be making changes around here (don’t worry, though, not too big of changes).
When I started this blog, I was right in the thick of wedding planning. I knew from Day 1 that I wanted to include wedding-planning posts on Very Erin, and from Day 1 they’ve been some of my most popular posts. Then 8 months ago the big day came and went, and I was no longer planning a wedding. But I knew I had readers who still were planning weddings, and it was a topic I was still passionate about. So passionate that in early fall of 2015, I decided to write a wedding planning book. I was excited, my wedding-planning readers were excited. I jumped right into writing.
Then, at the end of 2015, my work environment drastically changed. A coworker went on leave, leaving me the sole staffer in my office for a few months. Suddenly I found myself working more and harder than I literally ever had in my full-time job. I’m enjoying it, but it doesn’t leave much time for anything but getting my normal blog posts up. So, I figured I would just pick back up on the book in March when things settle down.
But here’s the thing. For the last couple of months, I have found my interest and passion wedding planning slowly waning. I was suddenly struggling to come up with wedding topics to write about (which had never happened before), and my heart just wasn’t in it anymore. For awhile I told myself that I needed to keep writing them until after I launched my book. But as my passion for wedding planning waned, so did my passion for the book I had started months earlier.
And that’s where the title “Making Changes” comes in. I’ve decided to move on from the wedding planning topic. I’ve decided that I’m not going to release my wedding planning book anymore. And perhaps a change you’ll notice more, I won’t be writing wedding planning posts on this blog anymore. I’ve got a couple more posts on the agenda for the next few weeks, and then I’ll be done.
There are so many topics I’m more passionate about. I would rather focus on the topics that are relevant to my life today. So you’ll be seeing more about marriage, blogging, career, creating a home, etc.
If you read Very Erin solely for my wedding planning posts, then this might not be the place for you any longer. And that’s okay! But for everyone else, you might enjoy this space even more without a topic that lately, I have felt is just creating clutter and confusion here.
Thank you for taking a few minutes out of your day to read this. I’ve welcomed the chance to sit down and write from the heart to my readers. Making changes is always difficult, but an audience who is as awesome and supportive as you all are makes it infinitely easier!
