Since Dave and I are both close to our families and have family in several places throughout Wisconsin and Michigan, we spend a lot of time traveling. Obviously, we love visiting family and friends, but it can be exhausting. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves to set aside weekends at home for us. When we have these rare weekends sans responsibilities and prior commitments, we try to make them as relaxing and stress-free as possible! If you’re someone who is constantly busy on the weekends, whether that be visiting loved ones or catching up on errands and housework, consider planning yourself a staycation. Set aside a weekend for relaxation and fun with your significant other, or just for yourself! Here are a few tips to help you plan the perfect staycation.
Get the Ugly Stuff Out of the Way
If you’re going to have a staycation, you aren’t going to want to be doing housework! Make sure everything is done before the weekend so you can enjoy your weekend with a clean house. If we need to run any errands for groceries, snacks, etc., we typically do that Friday on our way home from work so we don’t have to run errands during our weekend.
I also make sure to get my workouts for the week in Monday-Friday, because I’m definitely not going to be working out on my staycation!
Check Out Local Events
Madison is the perfect city for a staycation because there is always tons going on! There is the Farmer’s Market, festivals, concerts, and more going on every weekend. If your town has events going on in town, check them out!
Spend Some Time Outside
Now that we have our own house with a yard, we love spending time outside when the weather cooperates. We’re lucky enough to have a great deck where we can relax, grill, and enjoy food and drinks. We also have a firepit and love having friends over for fires in the evening.
Order Takeout and Watch a Movie
Whenever Dave and I have weekends at home, we always order takeout. Going out to dinner can be fun, but so is enjoying your favorite foods in the comfort of your own home while you curl up on the couch with a movie. Rent some of your favorite movies or binge-watch a show together on Netflix.
