If you’re anything like me, you spend all year looking forward to summer weather! Unfortunately, when you’ve got a full-time job that has you sitting at a desk, you spend an awful lot of that summer inside. When that’s the case, you have to find new ways to maximize and enjoy summer.
Wake Up Early
One of the great things about summer is the sun comes up early, and the weather is gorgeous all day long! It’s not like winter where you have to wait for it to warm up. Take advantage of that extra nice weather and wake up early to spend an hour or two outside before work. It can be something as simple as reading out on the deck or enjoying your breakfast and coffee outside.
Take Advantage of Time Off
I have to be honest, I don’t know many people who use all of their vacation time. But why? We’ve earned that time and have every right to use it! Start using your time off to enjoy some long weekends throughout the summer, or one killer vacation.
Use Your Lunch Hours
Since the weather started getting nice in April, a friend and I have used our lunch hours each and every day to walk. We aren’t going anywhere fancy, we’re just walking around the block over and over again! But we get to enjoy the beautiful weather with the added benefit of 30 minutes of exercise.
More than ever, during the summer I’m constantly looking forward to the weekend! Because of that, I try to make the most of them. During the other seasons, I’m probably spending a good deal of my weekend watching a show and relaxing, but I try to maximize them during the summer and take advantage of the activities and events available during the summer!
Spend Your Evenings Outside
Since we bought our new home, we’ve been spending some time outside almost every evening! One of the first things we did was purchase a grill and patio set to put out on our deck, so our meals are almost always prepared and eaten outside. We also spend time in our evenings mowing the lawn, weeding the garden, playing with Leia, etc.
Show Off Your Summer Style
Just because you’re stuck in an office all day doesn’t mean you can’t dress for summer! I’m all about the dresses in the summer, and luckily the dress code at my job is flexible enough that I can put all my fun sundresses to good use. It makes me feel like I’m enjoying summer without actually being in the sun.
Pick Up a New Hobby
A new hobby is a great way to enjoy summer! If you normally spend a lot of time at the gym, instead choose a workout that will get you outside! Running, biking, tennis, etc. are great examples! You could also do something other than exercise like boating, hanging out at the beach, or trying out some photography outdoors.
Bring Summer Inside
If you can’t be outside enjoying summer, bring summer inside to you! I’m all about the summer snacks during the summer, like melon and berries. I also go for summery drinks like iced tea. One of my favorite is Snapple Straight Up Tea from Hy-Vee. When I’m draining during a workday afternoon and wishing I was outside enjoying summer, this is the first thing I reach for! The simple, all-natural ingredients are exactly what I’m looking for during the summer. It also has the added benefits of having real sugar (none of the fake stuff) and being gluten free! There are so many varieties to choose from (Unsweetened, Sorta Sweet Honey Green and Sorta Sweet Rooibos tea with varying levels of sweetness), and my favorite is the Sorta Sweet Honey Green! It’s the #1 way to get me through the workday when all I want is to be outside!
Snapple Straight Up Tea is also providing me with some awesome summer music! I’ve been heading over to Pandora and listening to the True Tea Tunes radio station for music that helps me re-focus in the afternoon.
