If you’re currently planning a wedding or have planned a wedding in the last decade, you probably relied heavily on the internet and wedding websites specifically designed to help you plan your wedding. There are so many websites out there today that are designed solely to help you plan your wedding: checklist, budget, inspiration, etc. When I got engaged, I immediately took to the internet to find every resource available to brides. What should I expect to spend? What should I do first? When should I buy the dress? The websites I found laid out all of this information for me.
In the time I’ve been planning, I’ve relied specifically on two websites: Wedding Wire and The Knot. If you’re planning a wedding, you’ve probably heard of both and visited at least one of them. Since I’ve become fairly familiar with both sites, I wanted to share a review of each and let you know which website I find most helpful for different services.

1. Vendor Search and Reviews
When I was looking for my vendors, I used the search and review feature on both websites. Both sites had most of the same vendors, or at least a similar selection. The reviews is where they really differed, though. I had a really difficult time trusting the reviews on The Knot. Every vendor I looked at had 5/5 stars with reviews that were identical across several websites. I’m not saying none of them were true, but it made them seem less trustworthy. If a company has hundreds of reviews and not a single one with less than 5 stars, I have a hard time believing them! Wedding Wire seemed much more trustworthy and has more of an accountability process for making sure it is actually customers making reviews and that companies aren’t paying for reviews or writing them on their own.
Winner: Wedding Wire

2. Planning Tools
Both sites offer virtually the same planning tools: guest list, budget planner, seating chart maker, etc. Most of the differences come down to design and usability, so it’s really just a case of personal preference.
Winner: For me, The Knot
Both websites have a forum where brides can communicate with other real brides and ask wedding planning questions. The layout and vibe of both forums is incredibly different, so this one also comes down to personal preference. I wouldn’t say one is more functional than the other.
The forum on The Knot is broken down into specific categories, so you’re only posting to someone who is specifically reading that board. Some are based on the month you’re getting married, the theme, whether it’s a budget or luxury wedding, etc. If you have a straight-forward question and just want to get an answer and move along, this is the forum for you.
When you open the Wedding Wire forum, you’re seeing all the questions being posted as opposed to those for a specific category. The forum isn’t as focused. If you want to become a part of a wedding planning community of brides you can get to know while also asking question throughout your wedding-planning process, head over to the forum on Wedding Wire.
Winner: Both, depending on what you want to get out of it.
4. Inspiration Pictures
Both sites have hundreds of pictures available of dresses, hairstyles, decor etc that you can look at for inspiration. I”m sure this part of the website was much more popular before Pinterest, but I doubt it sees as much traffic anymore. Both have great pictures, but I found The Knot makes it easier to break it down by theme, colors, etc.
Winner: The Knot
Both wedding websites have an app for both iPhone and Android so you can do your wedding planning on the go. To be honest, neither of these are great. The Knot doesn’t allow you to do as much while the Wedding Wire app can be really glitchy.
Winner: Neither. I wouldn’t recommend either app and neither has great reviews.
Overall Winner: Both
I know, that’s an annoying answer. But it honestly comes down to what you’re hoping to get out of your wedding planning website experience. If you’re looking for a website that’s as clean and functional as possible, I recommend The Knot. If you’re looking for a website that will be welcoming and allow you to become a part of an online community, definitely go with Wedding Wire. I found myself spending time on the Wedding Wire forum, but using the planning tools on The Knot. Both wedding websites are beneficial to those wedding planning!
