Every woman knows that feeling of being out running errands or out with some friends when you realize there’s something essential missing from your purse. Maybe it’s a touch-up for your makeup or some cash to tip the bartender. It sucks, right? Trust me, I know the feeling. In this post, I’m sharing a few things every woman should have in her purse, in the hopes that we can all be a little more prepared in the future!

Makeup for Touch-Ups and a Mirror – This is pretty much a standard for women. Having at least the essentials in your purse is always a good course of action. I tend to go with some concealer and powder, as well as whatever shade of lipstick I happen to be wearing that day so I can apply touch-ups throughout the day.
A Healthy Snack – I always bring an extra healthy snack or two when I head out to work, as well as if I’m going to be out running errands on the weekend. I’m someone who tends to be hungry every few hours, and I would so much rather be prepared with a snack versus buying something unhealthy while I’m out, or spending unnecessary money! P.S. My current favorite on-the-go snacks are Larabars! I’m obsessed.
Cash – I don’t typically carry much cash on me, but it’s nice to have $10 or so for those “just in case” moments. Cash comes in handy if I am not able to bring a lunch to work since most of the food carts on the Capitol square don’t accept cards.
Bobby Pins/Hair Ties – Every woman understands the frustration of having unruly hair that you want to get out of the way, only to realize you don’t have a hair tie or bobby pins with you. Or that feeling when the hair tie you’ve been wearing on your wrist snaps as soon as you try to use it. It sucks, right? I always keep a small container of bobby pins (like this one) in my purse, just in case.
Blotting Papers – I have an oily face, so this one is particularly essential for me. Blotting sheets are great to have when you’re having an oily day, to help absorb some of it and get rid of some of that shine. Paper towel can work as well, but these are more effective and are great in case you don’t have access to a restroom. I use these from Clean & Clear. They work wonders when I’m on the go and need something quick!
Notebook and Pen – For all the list-making ladies like me, you’re probably already carrying around a notebook in your purse! I know my phone has the capabilities and is obviously more compact, but I really prefer to write things down on paper! You can get baby notebooks that take up next to no space in your purse.
Hand Sanitizer – This one is pretty self-explanatory. I feel like we all have those moments where we’re out and about in public, and suddenly wish we had some hand sanitizer! It just tends to come in hand a lot.
Feminine Hygiene Products – This is also pretty self-explanatory. Even if it’s not that time of the month, it’s always best to keep some supplies in your purse just to be safe!
Portable Cellphone Charger – For someone who uses their phones as much as I do, this one definitely comes in handy! If I’m doing anything after work, or anything that’s keeping me out of the house for most of the day, my phone battery is probably getting pretty low. I carry this phone case/power bank with me, just in case. It’s super small, so it doesn’t take up much extra room!
Gum – This is another one of those essentials that you’ll kick yourself for getting stuck without it. I always like to have a pack in my purse, and typically I’m reaching for it for a quick breath-refresh after my morning coffee. My go-to is the new Extra® 35-stick pack. I love it because you get more gum per pack, as well as durable, recycled packaging that holds up in my purse. Since it’s a larger pack, it’s super convenient to split up between my desk and my purse! And they couldn’t be easier to find since they’re right in the checkout line at Walmart. I’m usually reaching for the Extra® Gum Spearmint or the Extra® Gum Polar Ice®.
